Dedication & Dr. Bates History: Ophthalmologist William H. Bates worked his entire life treating people successfully with Natural Vision Improvement.
When he cured the eyes, vision of many patients and other doctors in the hospital where he worked with natural treatments, without use of eyeglasses, surgery, drugs and proved his method is fact and that some of the old theories of eye function were incorrect, only theories, the doctors, surgeons that preferred to sell eyeglasses, surgery, drugs expelled him.  Dr. Bates then opened his own office, a Clinic in Harlem, New York City. He treated thousands of people by natural methods, including many of the African Americans and other people that had little money, living in Harlem. His treatments were successful. He cured people of all ages, young and old.

Download and read the free modern text version of Better Eyesight Magazine to learn the new correct way a few of the old treatments in the original magazine are practiced. Treatments, activities must be practiced correct to maintain healthy eyes, clear vision.
Blue print and pictures in the text version describe the old, new, and improved treatments and the correct new way to practice them.
The text version can also be used to check for correction of the old worn print in some copies of the original pages.
Example of old methods that have been changed: Open Eyed Sunning and reading by looking only along/under the white spaces of a sentence are no longer practiced. New improved versions are taught.
The Sunglass is used only in special cases of near or complete blindness by a Bates Method experienced Ophthalmologist if other methods fail. It can burn the eye when used incorrect and, because it is a glass, it blocks full spectrum light resulting in partial spectrum, unbalanced light emitting from the glass. The light does not go into the eyes pupil but it still must not be overused.
Partial spectrum light in unhealthy. Pure full spectrum sunlight, not passing through glass is best, healthy for the eyes, body.
Some people still practice open eyed sunning but in a specific, safe way: Eyes, head continually move, eyes shifting to the sky near the left, right, top, bottom of the sun and they face the sun for a brief time. Other directions are applied for safety.
In later editions of Better Eyesight Magazine and books, Dr. Bates lists these changes, improvements.
Dr. Bates himself stated that the Bates Method is continually being improved. As he treated thousands of patients over the years the Bates Method was perfected. Bates Teachers state they learn much from their students, each student being an individual and various treatments being successful for each condition, state of mind, body, eyes and personality.
